8 Reasons why I love the Rollz Motion rollator

When you have a disability, having the right mobility aid can make a world of difference. Not just to your mobility — but also to your independence, self-confidence, and opportunities to take part in the things you enjoy.

Back in 2019, I was two years into my accident recovery. I was in and out of leg surgeries and in need of lots of walking practice to build up my strength. I had a wheelchair, a rollator, crutches, and various other mobility aids.

Planning a day out, I faced a constant “wheelchair or rollator?” dillema. If I took my rollator, I’d get to walk, but I’d end up exhausted and in pain. I’d find myself in need of my wheelchair and stranded without it. If I took my wheelchair, I’d have a seat but would completely miss the chance to walk. Whichever choice I made, I regretted not having made the other. If only there was a mobility aid that combined the two, I thought.

The answer was the Rollz Motion. This wheelchair-and-rollator-in-1 just so happened to be Dutch-designed and headquartered not far from my own apartment. What’s more, not long after I stumbled upon the Rollz Motion online myself, a message popped up in Instagram inbox from none other than the team at Rollz International, inquiring about an Able Amsterdam collaboration. It was a crazy coincidence and a very special opportunity to collaborate with a product I truly value.

I spent the next two years taking my Rollz Motion everywhere — transporting endless cups of tea indoors, ferrying my cats across the living room, using it on dog walks, strolling through the streets of Amsterdam, even traveling with it on trips abroad. The Rollz Motion meant I could walk when I wanted and rest when I needed to. As someone who needed both a wheelchair and a rollator, it was a game changer.

My Rollz Motion was a big part of my accident recovery and left a lasting impression on me. As I sit here on my sofa in my Amsterdam apartment, typing away with a cat snuggled on my lap, I thought I’d share just what makes the Rollz Motion so special:

  1. It’s a wheelchair-and-rollator-in-1.

Goodbye, “wheelchair or rollator?”" dilemma, hello stress-free days out. The Rollz Motion takes away the worry of choosing between mobility aids and gives you the opportunity to walk or sit whenever you like.

  2. It’s well-designed.

Other than being an attractive mobility aid, it’s well-designed. The frame of the Rollz Motion feels strong and stable, both as a rollator and transport chair.

  3. It’s comfortable.

The Rollz Motion has a soft foam-filled cushion, a supportive backrest, and comfortable foam handlebars. If I’d leave my Rollz Motion unattended at home, I’d often return to find one of my cats snuggled up in the seat. Enough said.

  4. It can be easily collapsed and transported.

The Rollz motion can be easily collapsed, stowed away, or transported in a car. The collapsibility is especially helpful when getting through narrow doorways, in crowded restaurants, or when traveling on a road trip or flight.

  5. It comes in a range of sizes and colours.

The Rollz Motion is available in two sizes, suitable for people between 1.50 m (4 ft 9) and 1.90 m (6 ft 2). It also comes in a range of colours — Pebble White, Dark Purple, Island Blue, and Matte Black. My personal favourite is the 2022 limited edition Rollz Motion Delft Blue, a tribute to its Dutch roots and current headquarters location.

  6. You can pimp up your Rollz Motion with various accessories.

Rollz International has a great range of Rollz Motion accessories, from cup holders, bag hooks and back rests, to a full Rollz Motion travel cover for when it’s stowed away during a flight.

  7. It attracts positive comments from strangers.

My Rollz Motion led to lots of positive interactions with strangers over the years. On several occasions I got stopped by people interested in the design, colour, or ability to switch from a wheelchair to a rollator (and vice versa).

  8. It gives back a lot of mobility and independence.

I used a Rollz Motion in 2019 and 2020. In those two years, my Rollz played a big part in regaining a sense of freedom and spontaneity after losing so much of my mobility. Thanks to my Rollz Motion, I could stroll along on longer dog walks, walk as much as possible, and enjoy far more stress-free, fun days out with friends and family.
