The Rollz Motion Delft Blue: One of the most stylish mobility aids out there

This post was written as part of a collaboration with Rollz International.

If you’re looking for a stylish mobility aid that will turn heads for all the right reasons, check out the Rollz Motion Delft Blue. Its white aluminium frame is decorated with striking blue floral designs and animal imagery. Not only is the Rollz Motion Delft Blue a stylish mobility aid — it’s versatile too, doubling up as both a wheelchair and a rollator. The Rollz Motion Delft Blue is proof that mobility aids can be functional, colourful, and confidence-inspiring all at once.

The Rollz Motion: A rollator-and-wheelchair-in-1

Designed by Dutch company Rollz International, the Rollz Motion is a wheelchair-and-rollator-in-1. It is both a walker and transport chair and can be easily switched between the two. In the photo below you can see an example of the Rollz Motion as a rollator. For photos of the Rollz Motion as a transport chair, look into this earlier blog post.

The Rollz Motion played a big part in my experience re-learning how to walk. In fact, I used a Rollz Motion for several years throughout my accident recovery. To learn more about my experience using a Rollz Motion, have a read through my past publications:

What is Delft Blue?

Delft Blue is an age-old style of Dutch pottery that originates from the city of Delft, The Netherlands. Dating back to the 17th century, Delft Blue was inspired by Chinese porcelain and gained popularity around 1600-1800 AD. Since then, Delft Blue has become a Dutch national symbol.

Throughout The Netherlands you’ll come across many Delft Blue-inspired ceramics. The only authentic Delft Blue producer, however, is Royal Delft. Their factory in Delft uses traditional methods and artistry to produce a range of products. Browse the many designs in the Royal Delft online shop.

The Rollz Motion Delft Blue

As its name suggests, the Rollz Motion Delft Blue takes inspiration from traditional Delft Blue ceramics. This is partly due to the special connection between Rollz International and the city of Delft. Not only have all the Rollz rollators been designed in Delft; Delft is also home to the Rollz International headquarters, and Rollz’ very first showroom.

The Rollz Motion Delft Blue includes a mixture of traditional- and modern- floral patterns. According to its designer Tim van den Ing, this special edition Rollz Motion “presents a rollator as a traditional Dutch work of art. The fragile character of the Delft Blue contrasts with the robustness of the Rollz Motion”.

The Rollz Motion Delft Blue provides the same level of stability, comfort, and functionality as the classic Rollz Motion rollator. The only difference is the addition of the (beautiful!) Delft-inspired design.

Special imagery and details

One of my favourite things about the Rollz Motion Delft Blue is the meaning behind its design. If you look closely, you’ll spot several pictograms representing different members of the Netherlands-based Rollz team.

Rollz CEO Martijn Schaaper’s last name, for example, is represented by a sheep — or ‘schaap’ in Dutch. Marketing Manager Oana Popoiu’s two beloved pet dogs are shown in the form of a tiny husky. You’ll also spot a guitar, a football, a mouse, a bicycle, and much more. The pictograms are a celebration of the many people who worked hard to make this mobility aid possible.
