A new TK Maxx opened up in Amsterdam and it’s super wheelchair-friendly

Please note that this is not a sponsored post.

Anyone who’s been to my apartment in Amsterdam knows it’s basically a TK Maxx showroom. I’ve got everything from decorative cushions, geometric photo frames, and soft blankets, to fancy dresses, floral blouses, and comfy pyjamas. Maybe it’s my British roots supporting a British subsidiary. Maybe it’s my Dutch side always on the hunt for a good bargain. Whatever it is, TK Maxx is celebrated in every corner of my little studio.

The biggest TK Maxx in The Netherlands, right here in Amsterdam

The perfect photo op.

On May 12th 2022, TK Maxx opened its 15th Dutch shop in a massive warehouse on Damrak 79. With five floors and over 4,000 square metres of space, it’s the biggest TK Maxx in the Netherlands. Whether you’re into fashion, interior design, homewear, beauty or self-care products, this shop has something for everyone — and for a great price, too.

Shampoo, anyone?

Plates, anyone?

All the little chairs you didn’t know you needed.

The most wheelchair-friendly shop on the Damrak

TK Maxx has great wheelchair accessibility. Dare I say it may even be the most wheelchair-friendly shop on the Damrak?

TK Maxx is wheelchair-friendly because:

  • The entrance is smooth, wide, and threshold-free.

  • It’s spacious, with plenty of room to manoeuvre between aisles.

  • The mirrors throughout the shop are floor-to-ceiling.

  • There are lifts to every floor.

  • Products are displayed at various heights, meaning customers can also see a lot while seated in a wheelchair.

  • There is an accessible fitting room for wheelchair users.

  • There is clear accessibility signposting leading to the wheelchair-friendly fitting room.

  • The countertops are low enough for customers to use and pay while seated in a wheelchair.

All those lifts do indeed make me smile!

Countertops are low.

There’s lots of space.

A mirror? I couldn’t resist.

The wheelchair-friendly fitting room

The TK Maxx wheelchair-friendly fitting room has a lot of accessibility features. It includes:

  • Good lighting

  • Lots of space to manoeuvre

  • A floor-to-ceiling mirror

  • A built-in seat

  • Grab rails

  • Low hooks and bars for clothing

  • A grab bar on the inside of the (lightweight) door

A built in seat, grab rails, and low hooks and railings.

Another obligatory mirror selfie.

Can we please see more of these changing rooms throughout Amsterdam?

What are you waiting for?
